Cashback is simpler and more predictable (a flat % back). Rewards points can be worth more if you redeem them well (especially for airline miles), but their value varies. If you just want money back with no effort, see the best cashback cards instead.

Rewards cards earn points whose value depends on how you redeem them. If you'd rather get a straightforward percentage back, see the best cashback cards instead.
How to choose a rewards card
- Match the bonus categories to your spending — HSBC Red rewards online/dining/overseas; Metrobank rewards dining/department/online; RCBC lets you pick your own.
- Know your point value. A high "points per peso" means little if each point is worth very little — check the redemption rate (shown above).
- Weigh the annual fee against how much you'll realistically earn.
- Pay in full every month. Card interest (~3%/month) dwarfs any rewards.
